How can I get involved?
We are always looking for great people to get involved with our organization on a variety of levels. If you are interested in volunteering your time, we are always looking for coaches, 5K volunteers, and we always appreciate people helping us spread the word about Girls on the Run and Girls on Track in Ottawa and Allegan Counties.
You can also get involved through program sponsorship. Please visit our Sponsors page for more information.
For a full description of coaching responsibilities or to sign up to be a coach, please visit our Coach page.
The 5K Planning Committees:
Every year we hold on three 5K events, two in the spring back-to-back and one in the fall. We are always looking for planning support to help us create successful and safe 5K events. The 5K planning committees help to organize, plan, and implement the 5K events and activities. These committees work with the Program Coordinator to ensure successful end of season celebrations for our over 1500 girls and their coaches. Volunteers interested in helping on one of these committees will:
- Be interested in planning and organizing events
- Attend monthly meetings and events
- Have a desire to recruit, train and retain volunteers
- Enjoy working with others to complete a multi-faceted task
- Use their knowledge of the community resources to help promote the events
There are three committees to choose from:
South Ottawa and Allegan Planning Committee: Spring Girls on the Run season – Beginning of March – Middle of May
North Ottawa Planning Committee: Spring Girls on the Run season – Beginning of March – Middle of May
Fall Planning Committee: Fall Girls on Track and Fall Girls on the Run – September – Late November
5K Support Volunteers:
These volunteers work hand-in-hand with the 5K planning committees to put on successful 5K events. These volunteers work on the day of the event and possibly the day before the event to help with set-up. We will need help with the following:
- Decorating the stadiums and setting up tables, chairs, team signs, stage, start and finish…etc.
- Handing out water and snacks to the runners as they finish
- Staffing water stations
- Course volunteers to set up, direct and cheer on the girls
- Chute guards - make sure the finish chute remains clear for all runners to finish safely
- Registration and check-in volunteers
- Photography-taking team photos on the day of the event
The New Balance Girls on the Run and Girls on Track Celebration 5K will be on November 21 at Holland West K-7. Pre-event set-up volunteers will need to report at 10am and route volunteers will need to report by 11:30am.
If you would like to be a volunteer for our Celebration 5K Events Click Here to register online. If you prefer to print a form to fill out please Click Here. You may mail, fax, or email your form to us. This event would not be possible without the support we receive from volunteers like you! Thank you!
